The Hate U Give is a 2017 young adult novel by Angie Thomas about 16-year-old Starr Carter, who witnesses the fatal shooting of her unarmed childhood best friend, Khalil, by a police officer. The story follows Starr as she navigates the two worlds of her poor, predominantly Black neighborhood and her affluent, mostly white prep school, and grapples with finding her voice to speak out against police brutality and racism after Khalil's death becomes a national news story. Inspired by the Black Lives Matter movement and the shooting of Oscar Grant, the novel explores themes of racism, police violence, identity, and activism through Starr's perspective. This book is in used, but like new condition. There are no markings in the book.
